What a freak day!

As usual, I was back here typing on the computer and watching a DVD. From somewhere nearby I hear this awful noise. It's not a cat, it's not anything I recognize in fact, so I start tracking it down. In the middle of my living room floor is a robin and staring up at me is Socks.

"Look what I brought you!"

I notice the thing is breathing and not really even wounded that badly, from what I can see anyhow. There's no blood for one thing. (Which is a good thing, considering the rug is CREAM colored.) I grab a towel and open the door, figuring to kind of grab it and toss it into the yard. Couldn't make myself do that, so I laid the towel flat and grabbed the tail feathers to kind of pull it onto the towel when it comes to life and on a limping wing races out the front door and down into the flowerbed under my rather large rosemary plant.

The cat, of course, followed the bird out the door. I followed them both, telling the cat to just leave him alone. A short time later, I returned and the bird was missing but the cat was standing by the gate. I figured it must have gotten to some safe spot or something, cause I couldn't find it at all. Stopped looking for it.

A short while later, the neighbor's new girlfriend/lover/wife (I have no idea) came over to offer me some chocolate covered cookies she made.

After that, the electric man came to shut it off. Paid him off. *gah*

Soon after, the neighbor returned with a bra, asking what size I was. Since I have no idea anymore I explained I wear sports bras now, having been encased in bra's the size of Texas for most of my life. Her ever-watchful boyfriend/lover/man-about-town hadn't noticed the fact that I'd lost 50 odd pounds overnight, so it was news to her. (She wasn't around until probably a month ago, when she started doing a massive makover of his yard at 1 or so in the morning. Seriously. She was out planting shrubbery at 1am.)

Sometime during the soap I notice that (again) the bathtub is leaking water from the hot water tap. It's been doing this, it has just been getting worse. It does this about every six months. Well, thinking I'd rather have the water in a bucket than just down the drain (I do pay through the arse for it, after all) I put a bucket under the tap. Somehow, I managed to make the entire situation WORSE and the water was just raging out of the tap. It filled the bucket in an hour and a half, and a second bucket in an hour. *sigh*

Which meant I then had two buckets of HOT water I had no idea what to do with. One I dumped part of into the toilet tank for lack of a better thing....the other I let cool and watered my plants. The rest went to watering the garden, on the day it RAINS of course.

People start coming home, finally, and one of them finds the bird under the car. Startled the poor thing out of hiding. I could see his wing injury a little better and it was obviously torn up, but it looked healable to me. If he could stay out of the way of my husband, who figured the best thing is to 'finish him' off using a machete he handed to my elder son. *sigh* Stopped that immediately, which is when the bird fled across into the next yard and under their car. Which attracted the cat, which attracted the dog, which made me yell again...."Leave it!" and sent me back inside to the TV.

*whew*

I have no idea what happened to the bird, and I'm grateful. I hope it makes a recovery, but I'm a realist and it probably won't. However, I sent it along with good thoughts.

The cats are drinking from the leftover bucket of water. I took it as a sign, so the bucket is still sitting there. Might as well go to a good use.

I have a mighty headache complicated by the stupid Meniere's disease. I ran out of the right pills and I just am afraid to see how much those baby's cost full-price, you know? But I can't deal with the swirly brains at the end of this kind of day. Time for B-E-D!

Night.
