PAGAN SPEAK DAY

In the Northern hemisphere was are about to celebrate Samhain, in the Southern Hemisphere it is the Beltaine. What are your plans for this sabbat? Any traditions that you have? etc.

The simple answer here is that I'm not that kind of pagan. I only consider myself pagan in that my spirituality has no religion anyhow. That said, I'll try to answer this question, because it was the only one of the three I thought I could answer. hehehe

I celebrate Halloween in the usual fluff manner. Candy, costumes, fake spiderwebs, trips to haunted houses, all of that. Well, as much as I can. My sons are coming up on the age where trick-or-treating is going to go by the side of the road, though. I've been thinking this year of creating some paganistic rituals for them. Starting some Samhain traditions.

My DH (dear husband) has been studying rituals and rites lately for all of the major sabbats, so I'm kind of hoping he has a good idea or two. Otherwise it will be as we usually do, lighting a fire in the bbq and burning leaves and saying, "Happy Samhain!" or something. You know, "winging that mother". It is what we do best around my house.

Currently, my entire Samhain tradition consists of re-reading "The Guardians", a book about witches at Samhain. Okay, right now I'm reading Anne Rice ("The Mummy" and now "Pandora") which is also a tradition. I get in a witchy mood about now, and start sucking down all the "folklore" I own and enjoy. Not an important tradition, but I sure love it.

I do think I'll teach my youngest son a candle spell (something basic, like wishes) this year. He's been very interested in witchcraft lately and I think it'd be nice to share what I know with him. The elder son is too busy with his social life at school to care....but the young red-headed child is magic-inclined. :)

Well, until next month...keep your pumpkin safe and your broom in the air.
